BE YOURSELF:DON'T ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE PUSHED, OR PULLED, INTO THE CROWD. Harry Bissoon 10/04/2023 It has been frequently argued that there is unity in diversity, and that social assimilation gives credence to this argument. While this explanation is favored by many social scientists, in their pursuit of peace and harmony in multicultural societies, or units, it is difficult to affix this concept to individualism. I am more in favor of the 'salad bowl' concept to look at individualism in the behavioral patterns of people. Individuals are not the same. Each of us is unique and have traits that make us different than others. In any circle of friends, we are tossed together, and around, and in the process we tend to lose our identity, and become identified with the identity of that group of people. But we are not the same, and losing our identities only serves to weaken the structure of the unit as a whole. A strong group of friends needs each individual to demonstr...
