AN ATTACK OF INSANITY
AN ATTACK OF INSANITY
Harry Bissoon
Western democratic societies, and even third world countries, are being driven to the edge, forced to dangerously stand on a precipitous brink,at the edge of an abysmal pit. We, as a people, have made tremendous strides in technology and academic excellence but socially and as individuals, we are in a state of abject degradation. We have become divided along patisan lines of opinions and superfluous misnomers, such as race and color, that are driving us into camps and corners, even into the shadows of our very existence.
Many are afraid to step out because of vociferous and vitriolic attacks on their personality and character, mindful of the relevance and impact of what they say, and how it can inappropriately hurt them. This has created a silent constituency, waiting in the shadows to strike where it matters. The respect and appreciation of individual freedom is thrown to the winds, as bandwagons, which are organized and funded, distort and feed on genuine causes, to destroy and wreck havoc on the rule of law and sound democratic structures.
Freedom has been dangerous, with its inalienable rights, to many who want to change the power matrix and sieze it for themselves, by hook, or, by crook. They now question tested structures and institutions that have kept us safe over time, space and causation.
Democracy, which was experimented on, and born out of the bosom of the Greek city states, is a solid foundation that can propel us into realms of peace and prosperity, but yet it is trampled upon to make pathways for those who would want to be unholy tyrants and demagogues.
As a people we have to ensure that what we have fought for over the decades must prevail and tyrants must not be allowed to roam freely.
Societal strength and cohesion is a function of a very simple and sometimes unnoticed factor - the family structure. The united nuclear and extended family unit is the building block of a strong, progressive and meaningful part of our continuous development as a people. New structures and different lifestyles challenge this basic building block, and in the process, have created a loose, freestyle approach to our stability and future generations.
Respect and appreciation of ideas and opinions, and a healthy acceptance of the rule of law must be paramount in our struggles to remain sane and relevant if we are to avoid falling into the bottomless pit of destruction. Let us not be caught in the vices of uncontrollable INSANITY!
