 COVID - 19: SHATTERING BORDERS IN THE FACE OF LOCKDOWNS AND BORDER CONTROLS 


A close examination of pictures of the earth, taken from space, high above the outer limits of this planet, is very revealing and may come as a shock to some of us. There are no recognizable boundaries, or, borders, separating the nations of planet earth! With the exception of vast bodies of water which sets the continents and islands apart, we do not see the national boundaries to which we have been accustomed to see on physical maps and diagrams! These man made, physical boundaries are vehemently protected, defended and talked about in all quarters!


Interconnectedness of the earth's people has taken on a realistic and meaningful dimension, tragically forced upon us by the far reaching and devastating effects of the virologist nightmare, Covid-19. No longer is interconnectedness discussed in abstraction and the ambiguous, flamboyant language of politicians.


This stark reality must act as a catalyst, a leavening agent, as it were, to instill and inspire all of us to work as a team to win the war against this deadly and highly contagious virus, while maintaining our national borders.

While many nations have been caught unawares, and while many others took too long to respond to the threat of Covid-19, because of an apparent failure of full disclosure, is now a matter for those leaders who make and break policies. We have to work together and share our knowledge of the virus. We have to fight it on a common front. In the meantime, lockdowns, safety measures, and border restrictions and control are serving to mitigate the spread of the disease. 


Let us not allow Covid-19 to erode our democracy and to give birth to a new breed of dictators. Let us not allow individuals and nations to exploit this contagion, at the expense of the helpless! Let us not trample on the rights of the people! And, let us ensure that nations inject enough money into the economy to keep people and businesses afloat until they can be allowed to become wage earners and revenue generators again!


Let us ensure that nations become safe again, with livable precautions and guidelines, so that we can go back to work and play, as soon as possible. If not, the world economy will crumble, as it is already doing. Then, we will all be fighting on two fronts, Covid-19 and starvation!

THE PANGS OF DEATH

Death is ever present, and  like a dark specter of doom, it hovers above and around us, waiting in the shadows to attack and devastate. It is envious of birth, which brings joy and happiness to us. Envious of our struggles down paths of thorns and roses.It follows us, breaching our defenses when and where we least expect it.
