THE NEW NORMAL
IS THIS THE NEW NORMAL?
COVID-19 AND ITS RAMIFICATIONS. Harry Bissoon.
"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds; your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world." Patanjali.
Covid-19 is gradually, nay, quickly, reshaping the world, in ways that are impacting the social, economic and geopolitical dynamics which influence our lives in this world of international interdependency.
The world will not be the same again, at least in the short term. Covid-19 has set the world racing to find ways and means to stem the tragic and deathly walk of this dreaded virus, and to understand the nature and ramifications of how it works. Scientists, doctors, medical experts, and even the media, have, since the onset of this virus, proffered various findings and observations that keep changing, as more and more information is collected. How is it transmitted? How long does it 'live', or, stay on various types of surfaces? Can it travel through the air, and, if so, for what distance? How long can it remain in the air? Should we stay six feet apart from each other, or more? Can simply talking, or breathing, emit this virus from one who is infected? Should we wear masks, or not? These are some of the questions that keep our experts in the field always busy, overworked, overwhelmed, and very concerned about our wellbeing.
Social distancing, isolation and living behind closed doors, in our chambers, are becoming the norms that go against our natural instincts to be the social creatures that we are. Is this going to be how we live from now on? The race to find a vaccine is progressing rapidly, but vaccines take a long time, possibly one year, before they are approved to be used. Short term remedies will be tried to ascertain there effectiveness, and if they work, they will not guarantee non - reinfection because the virus will still be with us.
In the meantine, we must be inspired, not 'outspired' to adjust, live healthy lives, follow good hygienic practices, eat healthy with what we have, wherever and whenever possible, respect nature, and pray. Even if your are an atheist, prayers will help. Pray, or, lift up your voice, either vocally, or, inwardly, and let it come from the depths of your soul, that inner spirit that is in all of us. Be inspired to reach that inner spirit and ask for strength, protection, and health. For those who know that there is supreme power, and even those who do not, seek help from this power.
