THE DECEITFUL ONE

Deception is surreptitiously all pervading in living things, in varying degrees on the scale of life, especially amongst humans! While lower levels of life use it as a form of struggle in the natural process of meaningful survival, it belies the complexity of the human ability to say and do things that are not true. A plant will emerge from a seed and produce fruit that is accepted by all as the rightful produce of that seed! An animal will respond in ways that we expect, when faced with circumstances in which they live,survive, and perish.It is only the human being who has the ability to do, to act, to lie, to deceive, and to create illusions of truth, that are tailor made to suit their individual preferences. 


We may know someone who behaves in accordance with accepted norms, but yet journeys on pathways that radically changes those norms, in shrewd and cunning ways, to fool, ridicule, entice, and destroy others. 

 

We, humanity, puff our chest and pound our hearts with clenched fists,, vowing, and loudly proclaiming that we would not change our ways, and to continue to fight for justice, freedom, and for what is right. We endeavor to love, cherish, and to pluck the beam out of our eyes, before we lay blame on others. We  raise our eyes and arms to the expansive universe, in respect of the glory and power of our magnificent creation. We pump our arms tirelessly,several times, as if to smash the air around us,  and swear to do what is right, and to righteously keep our sacred vow to respect, honor, and cherish each other.


But, alas, with treacherous and deceptive convolutions, we sway, swagger, and swivel, in a parade of deception, to fool, and befuddle,  in pursuit of self-aggrandizement and a fattened ego, contaminating our holy vow, so much so, that our pounding and pumping fists, instead of being totally pulverized and reduced to rubble and dust, becomes more effective in our game of lies and deceit.


We become caught,unwittingly, or not, in a quagmire of demagoguery, despotism, and nepotism, sinking deeper and deeper into dark and serpentine existence. We then struggle with the strings that we have created, and to which we have become unavoidably attached, as if it is the new norm. We sway and dance incongruously, having only incoherent, meaningless utterances, too late to realize that the use of our ability to project unrealistic, untrue, and unnecessary fallacies, have taken a devastating toll. 


A serpent we have become! A serpent, with murky and troubled thoughts!  A serpent that has shed its skin, revealing its own nakedness and shame. Yet it calls others shameless! We become an evil caricature of all that is bad, senseless, illogical, unacceptable, and mentally deranged!  


Make your way out of this quagmire, if ever you could, oh evil one, and you will no longer be a shell of nothingness, but will wear the armor of greatness! If not,hang your head in shame, disgrace and devastation, for you cannot stop the beating of the drums! Neither, can you stop the singing of the skylark!

FIRERASS  Harry Bissoon 2/13/2026 Mabel, up before sunrise, long before the cock, Natty, crows.  In haste, amidst hazy and foggy mist, she pushes herself to limits anew, to meet deadline, daily vows,   The light shines through neighba Aunty Breto's windows, in an eerie brightness.  It flashes,dances,and speeds into the still darkness,  Look! Mabel laments! She gone again! To roam and suck blood, before light approaches! Firerass she is! Firerass, oh god, is Breto, a never-ending nighttime seeker of gourmet secrets.  Nay,she cannot be. THE PANGS OF DEATH

Death is ever present, and  like a dark specter of doom, it hovers above and around us, waiting in the shadows to attack and devastate. It is envious of birth, which brings joy and happiness to us. Envious of our struggles down paths of thorns and roses.It follows us, breaching our defenses when and where we least expect it. Maybe this is why some of us celebrate death and mourn the coming of new life. Maybe this is why some of us glorify death and its painful throes of the unfettered release of our souls to be free of the agonizing clutches of life.
