A sigh of relief could very well be an understatement! It's more like an explosion of jubilation, as many of us are venturing out into the open, after being locked down for more than twelve months! Our enemy attacked with stealth, equipped with an armory made up of unseen and unknown weaponry. My headliner suggests an impending doomsday, but it's not! It's doomsday averted! Maybe, for now only, as our attacker may very well be one of many, lurking in incubation, waiting to strike, unexpectedly!


Hopefully, our response, which is a work in progress, will stick and be a death knell for the Virus that has been roaming the earth, reaching out to the far corners, and making deathly inroads into the alleyways, striking every nook and cranny, leaving a trail of death, debilitating sickness, sadness, and tears.


At the onset, our responses were erratic and presumptuously based on commonly known viruses, not knowing the full implications of the far reaching tentacles of the unseen enemy, and the the type of arsenal that Covid-19 possessed. Scientists and politicians  scurried to produce safety protocols, and dived into their tool kits to explore the effectiveness and efficiency of what they had. The race for combat-ready-made vaccines had started!


But vaccines, like many other things, are interbroiled in a soup made of politicians, scientists, humanitarians, community and interest groups, the ordinary folks, and opportunists who are just satisfied with harvesting for themselves. Vaccines have to be produced within a specific period, some said! Many politicians demanded warp speed for getting vaccines! Many wanted the vaccines, when ready, to be rushed to specific target population! And the people were reluctant to follow the safety protocols! It took millions of Covid-19 cases to finally solidify and fortify a strong fronline! 


While many nations have forged ahead and have victory in sight, others are still caught in rapid gunfire, and with the help of those who are almost out of the rut, they too will also achieve victory, even though, it seems, that the enemy is changing strategy. But it is the same enemy, and the weapons in our arsenal will prevail.


We should all be enthused with jubilation, at least in our neck of the woods, that we can once again resume normalcy, after hunkering down in our war-weary bunkers. But cautiousness must be our companion! Viruses do not die! They are out there! We fight them with strong immune responses! And safety precautions that are known to all of us!


Is it surprising that we have gone through the flu season without any significant cases of people getting sick with the common flu? Maybe not! The safety protocols we followed to combat Covid-19 also worked to keep the flu at bay. We have also learnt something else! Cleanliness! Cover up when you sneeze,or, cough. Wash your hands often. Do not enter your house with the shoes that you wear out in the streets. Of course, many if us grew up with this practice, but many of us have forgotten! 


We will all, eventually, be returned to dust, but let us ensure that we leave our Footprints in the sand of time.Be cautious! Be safe! Be proactive! Live life to the fullest and stay strong!

THE PANGS OF DEATH

Death is ever present, and  like a dark specter of doom, it hovers above and around us, waiting in the shadows to attack and devastate. It is envious of birth, which brings joy and happiness to us. Envious of our struggles down paths of thorns and roses.It follows us, breaching our defenses when and where we least expect it.
