US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS 2024:
AN ANALYSIS
Harry Bissoon 11/07/2024
The 2024 U.S Presidental election was a triumph of issues and policies over identity politics. While Trump and the Republicans targeted working class Americans with issues that directly affected them, Harris and the Democrats engaged in identity politics, consistently attacking Trump's character, attempting to create anger and hatred amongst the electorate.
This strategy is as old as Trump's grand entrance on the political scene eight years ago. At that time, Trump, and established businessman, ruffled the Washington political bureaucracy, and in the process, he became the US President, to the dismay and emotional distress of Hillary Clinton. The Democratic machinery then embarked on a smear campaign to damage and destroy his chances as a politician. And even after he lost in his bid to be reflected, they still saw him as a threat. They intensified their campaign of misinformation, questionable charges, using a politicized Justice System.
Kamala Harris and the Democrats backed themselves into a corner and got trapped with character assassination instead of getting involved in a discourse with the electorate about issues and policies. And everytime the Democratic Presidential candidate attempted to wiggle out of her predicament, Joe Biden prevented her from doing so by making unnecessary remarks.
A comedian's, apparently unvetted, distaateful remarks about Puerto Ricans at a Trunp rally at the internationally famed Madison Sqare Garden, created quite a stir in the media. But instead of using this to their advantage, Biden immediately referred to all Republican supporters as garbage. It was as if Biden, deliberately, wanted to keep Kamala in her corner. Trump and the Republicans quickly, on the run, turned this to their advantage. Trump's supporters were outraged and became more resolute in their determination to vote for him, and it didn't stop Latinos from voting Republican.
When Kamala, in her late attempts to talk about issues and policies, tried to reboot, she messed it up. Her predicament with the Israeli and Gaza conflict exposed her weakness as an adept leader. You cannot speak with a forked tongue, telling different stories about the same issue to different segments of the electorate. Her message to muslims and jews, and to the electorate across the board should have been the same.
While Trump's message coalesced around issues of the economy and immigration, Harris and the Democrats stuck with character assassination and the old and overabused, ugly ,and disparaging machinery of racism. While Trump and the Republicans talked about a broken economy and immigration system, Harris and the Democrats appealed to black men to vote for her, because they were black. The Democrats didn't have an answer to Trump's ‘You Broke It, I Will Fix It’.And Obama's appeal to black men has tarnished his impeccable, spotless career as President. In the end, regardless of Obama, it was the vote of black men, and Latinos, that contributed to Trump's historic victory.
Trump's strategy of targeting pocket book issues around the economy and immigration, appealed to working class Americans. Skyrocking prices at the supermarket and the high cost of living were things that the electorate wanted to hear about, and to be told about solutions to this dilemma. Trump told them about valuable resources that could have been theirs, but instead, it had to be diverted to thousands of illegal immigrants, scattered across the country. This enraged the electorate and moved them into Trump's corner.
The Democrats have moved away from issues and policies. They now have an arsenal of weapons that target personality. Before it was the Russian Collusion. In 2024 it was Fascism and Hitler. They had to resurrect Hitler to add to their weaponry. The Russian Collusion was a hoax. And so is Hitler's Fascism.
I am a registered Republican but it hasn't stopped me, on occasions, to vote for Democrats, like I did for Clinton. Oh no, not Hillary! Bill!
The Democrats have long since moved away from their creation and conception of Slavery, Ku Klux Clan, and the Civil War. Please do not let us go down that road again.
